History

Origins
Latterie Riunite was founded in Ragusa in 1959, a time when the Iblean farmer raised livestock and transformed milk into pruouli, caci, and cosacavaddu, in quantities dictated by family needs. Part of the milk was sold to lattarari, who sold it on the streets and in the city’s vanidduzze to housewives, who were ready to fill nappe and scutedde with a cannata. Unsold milk, in the absence of refrigeration or preservation methods, was lost.

The birth of the cooperative
The goal of recovering and using this precious food to transform it into dairy products was what united a group of Ragusans and led them to form a cooperative. With registration number 736 of November 26, 1959, at the Ragusa Court, completed with registration with the CCIAA of Ragusa on December 11 of that year, the adventure of the Società Cooperativa Latterie Riunite di Ragusa officially began.

The founding members
The seventeen founding members of the cooperative were: Giuseppe Corallo, Angelo Occhipinti, Vincenzo Occhipinti, Giorgio Battaglia, Giuseppe Occhipinti, Giovanni Vitale, Nunzio Vitale, Giovanni Impellizzeri, Vito Cabibbo, Francesco Imposa, Vincenzo Pluchino, Vincenzo Arestia, Girolamo Moltisanti, Giovanni Campo, Giovanni Corallo, Francesco Corallo, and Nunzio Occhipinti. Each subscribed to a share of 5,000 lire and the paid-in capital was 85,000 lire.

Ognuno sottoscrisse una quota di 5.000 lire e il capitale sociale versato fu di 85.000 lire.
